Using the inclinometer

To determine the angle of elevation between an observer’s eye and the top of an object situated at a certain distance from the observer, the latter must:

  • sight the top of the object through a tube, like a plastic straw that is attached to the Circuit Playground Express board, as follows,
  • hold the Circuit Playground Express board upright, with the straw next to his/her eye, and point it at the top of the object he/she wants to measure,
  • keep the Circuit Playground Express board still,
  • press either button A or button B to take a reading,
  • if the reading quality is not sufficient (NeoPixel #8 lights up red), try again because either the Circuit Playground Express board was not upright enough or there was too much movement from the observer,
  • if the reading quality is good (NeoPixel #8 lights up green), add up the light-up digits of the first eight NeoPixels or check the tan_alpha.txt file on the CircuitPython storage to get the magnitude of the angle \(\alpha\), or answer the questions in the serial console if the Circuit Playground Express board is connected to the computer.
