Unit: “Chair Design”
The “Chair Design” unit engages students aged 12-14 in an interdisciplinary project that integrates physics, mathematics, art, and engineering. The primary objective is to design and build a functional and aesthetically pleasing chair. Students will explore ergonomic principles, material properties, and the forces acting on chairs. They will engage in brainstorming, sketching, 3D modelling, and prototyping. The unit emphasises technical and design skills, artistic expression, mathematical application, and collaborative learning. Activities include creating detailed designs, constructing prototypes, and refining their designs based on feedback, fostering critical thinking, creativity, and practical application of STEAM concepts.
