Unit: Bridges

Unit “Bridges”

The “Bridges” unit engages 6th-grade students in a 540-minute interdisciplinary project integrating science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. The primary objective is to design and construct a hydraulic bridge, leveraging the principles of hydraulics and fluid mechanics. Students will learn about the incompressibility of fluids, pressure in liquids, and volume calculations. They will use syringes and tubes to create functional hydraulic models and present their projects. The unit emphasises teamwork, creativity, and the practical application of scientific concepts. Activities include designing, building, and artistically enhancing the hydraulic bridge and documenting and presenting the project.
