Unit: “Mars – Settling Down”
The “Mars – Settling Down” unit engages year 7 students in a two-month interdisciplinary project integrating English, physics, biology, geography, mathematics, art, and social studies. The primary objective is to design the first settlement on Mars, addressing challenges such as space travel, housing, weather conditions, and food production. Students learn about the solar system, rocket mechanics, and the essentials for sustaining life on Mars. They engage in hands-on activities like building rockets, designing geodesic domes, and creating parachutes. The unit emphasises teamwork, problem-solving, and practical application of scientific and mathematical principles, fostering a comprehensive understanding of space colonisation.
