Unit: “Developing a New Sport”
The “Developing a New Sport” unit engages students aged 12-14 in a 10-week interdisciplinary project that integrates math, music, physics, art, language, and economy. The primary objective is to develop a new sport that can be played on the school playground during breaks. Students will collaborate in teams to brainstorm, design, and create a new sport, incorporating field size, equipment, rules, and scoring systems. The unit emphasises creativity, problem-solving, and effective communication. Activities include brainstorming sessions, calculations, material research, 3D modelling, and creating promotional materials. The project culminates in a sports fair where students present and demonstrate their new sport, fostering teamwork, critical thinking, and practical application of STEAM concepts.
